Brief Bio
Background
Suzette Martinez Standring is a
self-syndicated columnist and writer living in Milton Massachusetts.
Her work appears regularly in the Patriot Ledger (MA), the
Milton Times (MA), and other newspapers and magazines. In 2004,
she was awarded top prize in a short story contest sponsored by the
Milton Public Library. In 2003, Suzette was voted Best Columnist in
the annual Best of Milton Survey by readers of the Milton
Times.
Born in San Francisco, she spent most of her career in legal
association management as Executive Director for the Association of
Defense Counsel of Northern California, and other legal groups.
Suzette and husband David moved
to the East Coast in 1996. Seeking reinvention, she developed and
taught a meditation/journaling course at a Connecticut state prison
for men. Later, in New Jersey, she took an evening class in
journalism. The teacher/newspaper editor offered her a job. Assigned
to cover the county seat, she later received an award for her coverage
of the deer overpopulation problem from the Hunterdon County Board of
Agriculture. Later, she began writing humor columns as personal
therapy, which became a popular feature.
Moving to Massachusetts in 2000,
Suzette joined the National Society of Newspaper Columnists, and
chaired the 2001Annual Meeting program in San Francisco. She was
elected NSNC president for its 2004-2006 term.
Her crowning achievement is her
daughter, Star.
